Wumba Camp Counselor Role Description

Roles and Responsibilities

Overview

Preference given to students (secondary school students must be entering at least grade 11)

  • Qualified secondary school students must be available to begin on Monday, June 24, 2024.

  • All applicants must be under 30 years of age

Experience working in a camp environment is preferred but not required

9-week paid position (June 24 – August 30):

  • Team Training and Preparation (June 24 – July 5)

  • Day Camp (July 8 – August 30)

  • One unpaid week off (August 5-9)

  • A scheduled end-of-year exit interview (scheduled at later date)

  • Note: weeks 1, 5-7 are at our Waterloo Site, weeks 2-4 are at our Kitchener Site

Work under the supervision of the Camp Leadership Team

Provide leadership and mentoring to LITs (leader development program)

Be on mission together in KW

Team Training & Preparation (two weeks)

Promote camp within WMB Church and the local community

Attend Sunday events that promote and support Wumba

Under the supervision and leadership of the Camp Leadership Team, the Camp Counsellor Team will be trained in leadership skills, spiritual formation, discipleship, team-building, and safety policies, and work together to prepare for the seven weeks of camp, including (but not limited to):

  • Sourcing and organizing resources

  • Developing workshop, makerspace and other programing

  • Curriculum development for Bible exploration

  • Providing discipleship to the LITs

  • Special practical and discipleship training from pastoral staff, camp leadership, and special guests

Day Camp (seven weeks)

During the seven weeks of camp, the Camp Counselor will:

  • Meet prior to daily registration for prayer and connection

  • Follow the WMB Keeping Safe Policies as they lead

  • Set up and lead program rotations

  • Set up and lead arts and craft sessions

  • Set up and lead Bible exploration

  • Lead large group worship sessions

  • Seek to develop positive relationships & discipleship with the campers

  • Disciple children throughout the week with daily Bible exploration

  • Actively reflect with the Staff Team on what went well, and possible improvements

  • Meet to clean up, debrief and pray at the end of the day

During the seven weeks of camp after-care, the Camp Counselor will:

  • Work one after-care shift per week (will start the day late)

  • Help facilitate activities for aftercare program

  • Lead and disciple campers
